Option #1: Liquid Pest Control

Once you have signed up for a treatment program for your yard, a technician will visit your property and perform a liquid pest control application. The application can be performed on its own or in conjunction with a lawn care treatment program. 

For optimal results, our technicians will apply a residual insecticide along property lines and around structures such as dog houses, kennels, sidewalks, pathways, or patios to help protect against ticks around the home. Turf areas that are of importance to observe for ticks include those adjacent to forested areas, stone walls, ornamental plantings, and other areas where there is overgrown vegetation. If potential hosts (such as pets) are present, locations where they may encounter ticks – including bedding and areas where they rest – should be treated as well. 

Option #2: Tick Tubes

This second option is more effective at controlling ticks in the larval or nymphal stages than perimeter pest sprays or mosquito control sprays. Tick tubes use the tick's own feeding habits against it. Believe it or not, mice are one of the primary sources of disease-infested ticks. Tick tubes are filled with cotton, which is then taken by the mice for use in their nests. When ticks feed on the mice, they ingest the tick-killing chemical found in the cotton. In essence, tick tubes turn mice from tick hosts into tick killers.

Rest assured that while the cotton is deadly for ticks, it does not harm humans, pets, or the mice gathering the cotton. Tick tubes are easy to apply and environmentally friendly, making them a great option for protecting your family. They can effectively kill ticks in areas that other spray treatments can’t reach.

Ticks thrive in a variety of outdoor environments and aren’t picky when it comes to finding a host, often transmitting dangerous tick-borne illnesses, such as Lyme disease, in the process. It’s always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to ticks. At Weed Man, we recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and close-toed shoes when walking or working in densely vegetated areas. Always inspect clothing layers, body parts, and hair after any outdoor activity (remember: ticks can be as small as a poppy seed!). If you have pets, check fur, ears, and paws regularly for any signs of ticks.
