Professional Sod Webworm Control Services for a Healthy, Green Lawn

Recognize Sod Webworm Damage

Sod webworm damage often looks like dead spots of turf that can be easily pulled up like carpet.

Stop Yellow & Brown Patches

Their feeding leaves behind ugly brown and yellow patches that grow larger over time.

Rely on Weed Man

Enjoy a healthy, vibrant yard again with Weed Man’s proven sod webworm control service.

Difficult to Spot

Sod webworms typically hide out buried in your lawn’s thatch, below the surface.

Harder to Control

They tend to do most of their damage during the larvae stage, and they’re even harder to control in the adult stage.

Often Mistaken for Drought

Many homeowners assume the damage is due to extended heat or dry weather... until water doesn’t fix the issue.

What is a Sod Webworm?

Sod webworms are small, tan-coloured caterpillars. They are approximately 1½ - 2½ cm long and are typically found in the thatch layer of your lawn. They cause damage by eating the blades of grass, leaving brown patches in their wake.

They are more active during hot, dry weather conditions, and damage is usually most severe during the summer months, when the larvae are actively feeding.

How Do I Control Sod Webworms on My Lawn?

Weed Man's surface insect control begins with identifying the insect causing damage to the lawn.

Because some insects can only be controlled at certain times during their life cycles, our lawn care technicians are trained to identify:

  • The insect responsible for the damage
  • The specific life cycle of that insect
  • The exact level of infestation

From there, an insecticide application is often used to control sod webworms, applied at the correct stage of their life cycle.

How Do I Get Rid of Sod Webworms?

It’s one thing to simply kill the sod webworms you have today. Our goal is to ensure they don’t come back.

At Weed Man, we find that the best sod webworm control results come from Integrated Pest Management.

This includes:

  • Biological control
  • Habitat manipulation
  • Modification of cultural practices
  • Use of resistant varieties of grass

This means that we only use pesticides after careful monitoring indicates that they are needed, and to remove only the target organism.

How Can I Tell if My Lawn Has Sod Webworms?

Sod webworm damage is often mistaken for dry spots. If watering doesn’t revive the lawn and you notice birds pecking at the turf or moths flying in the evenings, it may be sod webworms or another type of turf-damaging insect.

Will My Lawn Recover After Sod Webworm Damage?

In many cases, lawns bounce back with proper care, such as watering, fertilization, and overseeding. Severe infestations may require more recovery support, but Weed Man can guide you.

Can Sod Webworms Come Back Every Year?

Yes, sod webworms are seasonal pests that can return each summer. Regular lawn care and preventative strategies help reduce the risk of recurring infestations.

Do not wait for sod webworms to take over your lawn. Find the local Weed Man in your area today!

CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORIES

We have helped countless homeowners take their lawns from weedy to “Wow!”

Weed Man Scarborough, ON

This is my first year using a lawn service company for my weeds. I was skeptical at first but whatever they did to my lawn worked. The advice they gave me about what I could do to help keep the lawn looking great from watering to length of cut really helped. I had several people comment on how great it looked. I called in a few times with questions about my lawn care. By far the best customer service people I've dealt with in a long time. Great people. Highly recommend.

Weed Man Abbotsford, BC

This team is great. What appears to be a quick come and gone application, is from experience and a good eye. The moss control and fertilizer application has greatly improved the rich green colour. The aeration and overseeding has filled in those mole hills from last year's damage. Tegjot has requested a second weed control spray to get that pesky buttercup under control. Nearly 20 year of neglect is a work in progress, but already looks so much better.. Thank you.
