Professional Mole Cricket Control Services for Tunnel Prevention

Destructive Tunnels

Mole crickets are among the most destructive lawn pests, as they tunnel underneath your lawn and feed on the root system.

Ugly Damage

The damage from their tunnelling and feeding activities leaves you with brown patches and dead grass.

Secondary Damage

Animals like raccoons, armadillos, and birds will dig up your lawn looking to feast on mole crickets - making things even more expensive.

Weed Infestation

The damage left behind by mole crickets can make your lawn more susceptible to weed invasions and other pests.

Hard to Spot and Control

They do their damage at night and spend the day underground. You may not know you have them until the damage has begun.

Timing is Important!

Call us right away. Effective mole cricket control should start as soon as you spot any damage to your lawn.

How Do I Control Mole Crickets in My Lawn?

Mole cricket damage can be difficult to identify and may become a significant problem if left untreated. The correct diagnosis of a surface insect problem is essential. That’s where we come in. As soon as you observe signs of mole cricket damage in your lawn, contact your local Weed Man for an analysis.

Our professional lawn insect control services target both the current pests and their larvae to stop the cycle before major damage occurs.

A change in cultural practices can help prevent infestations.

How Can I Strengthen My Lawn to Stand Up to Mole Crickets?

A thick, healthy, well-maintained lawn is always the best defence against mole crickets and other pests.

This involves beneficial cultural practices such as:

  • Watering: Water each area of your lawn for 30-45 minutes, twice per week, in the early morning so the turf is dry by nightfall.
  • Mowing: Mow your lawn the right way. Keep your lawn between 7.5-9 cm (3-3.5 inches) high, or slightly higher during hot summer months. Also, never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade.
  • Fertilizing: Weed Man’s specially formulated, slow-release granular fertilizer gives your turf the nutrients it needs to ward off pests, diseases and weeds.
  • Aeration: Aerating your lawn can improve soil drainage and help protect against infestations of all kinds.
What are Mole Crickets?

Mole crickets earn their name from their burrowing habits and mole-like appearance, with front legs that are well adapted for digging. They are commonly found in the Southeast United States. Specifically, there are three species of mole crickets that are considered to be the most problematic.

  • Southern mole crickets
  • Short-winged mole crickets
  • Tawny mole crickets

They do most of their damage from late August to early October. They are also nocturnal, so they do most of their feeding and tunnelling at night. The tunnelling activities of mole crickets can be very disruptive to many plants. They loosen the soil around the root system, causing the roots to dry out.

If you suspect you have mole crickets, start getting the infestation under control right now by finding the local Weed Man in your area.

CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORIES

We have helped countless homeowners take their lawns from weedy to “Wow!”

Weed Man Scarborough, ON

This is my first year using a lawn service company for my weeds. I was skeptical at first but whatever they did to my lawn worked. The advice they gave me about what I could do to help keep the lawn looking great from watering to length of cut really helped. I had several people comment on how great it looked. I called in a few times with questions about my lawn care. By far the best customer service people I've dealt with in a long time. Great people. Highly recommend.

Weed Man Abbotsford, BC

This team is great. What appears to be a quick come and gone application, is from experience and a good eye. The moss control and fertilizer application has greatly improved the rich green colour. The aeration and overseeding has filled in those mole hills from last year's damage. Tegjot has requested a second weed control spray to get that pesky buttercup under control. Nearly 20 year of neglect is a work in progress, but already looks so much better.. Thank you.
