Professional Dallisgrass Control Services for Turf Consistency

Unsightly & Uneven Clumps

Dallisgrass collects into coarse, clumpy patches that make your lawn look uneven.

Spreads Quickly

It spreads through seeds and underground stems, even after you’ve pulled it out. That’s why you need a professional!

Aggressive & Competitive

Dallisgrass is extremely competitive and grows quickly. It will steal sun, water, and nutrients to take over your lawn!

Hard to Remove

Small infestations may be pulled by hand, one by one, and repaired with desirable grass seed varieties or sod, but professional control may be necessary for large infestations.

Frustrating Regrowth

Regular lawn activities like mowing, foot traffic, and pets can readily spread Dallisgrass seed from one spot to another, so early identification is key.

Dangerous Lumps

Dallisgrass clumps can reach the point where they pose tripping hazards, making it unsafe for kids to play in the yard.

What is Dallisgrass?

Dallisgrass is a yard-ruining, warm-season grassy weed that can pop up in lawns across the southern United States.

As an undesirable, coarse-textured perennial, it frequently grows in a circular mass or clump in the middle of a yard. Dallisgrass seeds generally germinate in the spring and summer when soil temperatures are cool, resulting in clumpy patches of grass.

Its short rhizomes root easily in moist soil, and it has a distinctive seed head that is tall and purplish in colour and produces a large quantity of seeds. Dallisgrass will also thrive in sandy or clay soils, growing twice as fast as regular turf grasses and creating unsightly tufts for the homeowner.

How Do I Control Dallisgrass Weeds in My Lawn

Dallisgrass is known to be very aggressive and frequently outcompetes more desirable grasses for sun, water, and nutrients. This is why it’s such a stubborn problem.

A primary method of control is to prevent the establishment of new Dallisgrass seeds through eradication, and possibly even lawn renovation. Dallisgrass in tall fescues may need to be controlled through manual or mechanical methods.

When you’re dealing with difficult-to-control weeds like Dallisgrass, it’s important to identify the species early. Contact your local Weed Man for an expert analysis and professional control plan!

How Do I Get Rid of Dallisgrass

It’s also important to know that regular yard maintenance is crucial to keeping dallisgrass away permanently. A lush, healthy lawn is always the best dallisgrass control strategy. You need to ensure you water regularly and properly, while also mowing your lawn the right way.

Recommended mowing heights:

  • Common Bermudagrass – 2 to 3 cm (¾ to 1¼ inches)
  • Hybrid Bermudagrass – 1.5 to 4 cm (½ to 1½ inches)
  • Centipedegrass – 2.5 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches)
  • Zoysiagrass – 2.5 to 6.5 cm (1 to 2½ inches)
  • St. Augustine – 7.5 to 10 cm (3 to 4 inches)
  • Fescue – 7.6 to 10.2 cm (3 to 4 inches)

In all cases, never remove more than a ⅓ of the grass blade at each mowing.

CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORIES

We have helped countless homeowners take their lawns from weedy to “Wow!”

Weed Man Scarborough, ON

This is my first year using a lawn service company for my weeds. I was skeptical at first but whatever they did to my lawn worked. The advice they gave me about what I could do to help keep the lawn looking great from watering to length of cut really helped. I had several people comment on how great it looked. I called in a few times with questions about my lawn care. By far the best customer service people I've dealt with in a long time. Great people. Highly recommend.

Weed Man Abbotsford, BC

This team is great. What appears to be a quick come and gone application, is from experience and a good eye. The moss control and fertilizer application has greatly improved the rich green colour. The aeration and overseeding has filled in those mole hills from last year's damage. Tegjot has requested a second weed control spray to get that pesky buttercup under control. Nearly 20 year of neglect is a work in progress, but already looks so much better.. Thank you.
