Essential for Long-Term Lawn Health

A vital step in any professional lawn care plan, keeping your soil in top condition year after year.

What is a Soil’s pH and Why Does it Matter?

Your soil’s pH is a measurement of these ions.

  • A pH of 7 is considered neutral and is the ideal measurement
  • Any measurement below 7 is acidic
  • Any measurement above 7 is alkaline

By applying lime, you can correct your lawn’s pH back toward neutral and help ensure the health and vitality of your lawn.

How Does Liming Help Correct Soil pH?

Acidic soil can be readily corrected by regular applications of lime (pelletized limestone), which will increase the availability of certain nutrients such as:

  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium

Iron is an important component of photosynthesis, while calcium and magnesium are essential elements for plant growth.

Even if your soil’s pH levels are normal, liming improves the population of microorganisms in the soil and provides valuable nutrients to create improved soil conditions.

How Do I Know if My Lawn Needs Lime?

If your lawn is thin, yellowing, or overrun with moss or weeds, your soil may be too acidic. Weed Man can help determine if a lime treatment is needed.

Does Liming Replace Fertilization?

No! Lime doesn’t feed your lawn. It simply improves the soil environment so fertilizers and nutrients can do their job more effectively. Liming and fertilizing work best together as part of a complete lawn care program.

How Often Should Lime Be Applied?

Most lawns benefit from liming every 1–2 years, depending on rainfall, soil type, and regional conditions. Sandy soils tend to lose balance faster and may need more frequent applications.

When is the Best Time to Lime a Lawn?

Fall and early spring are ideal. Moist soil and moderate temperatures help lime react with the soil efficiently, setting the stage for healthier growth in the upcoming season.

The first step towards taking control is finding the local Weed Man in your area.

The Weed Man has successfully eradicated an enormous number of weeds in my backyard with their initial treatment. I have found the Weed Man to be exceptionally responsive to any requests that I have made. The service is competent and very friendly. I highly recommend this company! Post Season follow-up: Throughout the season (It is now mid-September), the Weed Man technician, Damien, provided excellent service and was immediately responsive to all of my requests. If there were a couple of instances of a weed or two reappearing, he gladly stopped by to treat it. It has been a pleasure using Weed Man, and I absolutely recommend its services to anyone with a weed issue. I will continue to use Weed Man on an annual basis.
